The process is the same for children and adults. There is a clinical interview with parents/spouse or other family member to get clinical information about their child’s functioning in academic, social, and family environments and for adults it would also involve their performance in their occupational setting as well. It is important to review report cards and standardized testing (Keystone) and any testing the school may have done if the child was assessed for learning disabilities. I have the parents/spouse or other family member and teachers complete a variety of questionnaires and rating scales to assess for ADHD and other disorders that could mimic ADHD or may co-exist with ADHD. I will also have the child/adult complete a TOVA (Test of Variables of Attention) which is a continuous performance test (CPT).
